|
NEW
Series: "Redemption
in All of Life"
From November 2009
to April 2010, One Thing embarks on a new course
of seeking "Redemption in All
of Life." It is about daring to explore a
life where Jesus, the Redeemer, is involved in
every
facet of who we are and what we do, so that we
experience redemption in all of those areas. Wherever
Jesus
is,
there's redemption. Our guide for the journey
is the book of Matthew in the Bible. |

Steps of Starting a New Church |
|
As we gradually start this new church in Hollywood, we have been hosting monthly
services in addition to conducting charity projects, community service projects
and weekly Bible studies. This coming worship service on July 12 will be our
last monthly service, but we will begin bimonthly services in August! They
will be on August 2 and August 23. Our growth in faith and community is gradual
and developmental. We welcome you to be a part of our growing process!
If there are topics you would like to see One Thing
church address in a worship service, we would very much
like to hear your thoughts!

Feeding the homeless with a BBQ at "My
Friend’s
Place". |

|
One Thing will be hosting a BBQ at My Friend’s Place
for 80 some homeless young adults. Our goal is to feed their
bodies with hot dogs and hamburgers and their spirits with
warm smiles and caring conversations.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A Sunday of Serving
17 of us grilled and served dozens and dozens of homeless/needy young adults
at My Friend's Place in Hollywood. We served out over hundred hamburgers
and hotdogs, and created an incredibly positive experience as we also got
to talk, mingle and be a light to others. What was great for me to see
was many of the young adults were needy but not down-and-out. Many of them
were also hurting and we hoped even for an afternoon, we were able to be
a touch of blessing to brighten their day. Check out the attached photos
and also read below a very deep felt poem that one of the young adults
wrote. Our relationship with My Friend's Place will be ongoing as we look
forward to future partnerships together.
Poem by a young adult at My Friend's Place (author unknown):
All my life I've struggled to keep myself alive.
All my life I've hustled just to get by.
All my life I don't know if I'mma survive.
All my life I've been waiting to fly.
(perhaps this person's words are not so far from the echoes of some
of our own hearts.)

We went out to serve the LA Youth Network (LAYN) by
washing their vehicles for transporting youth and tearing
up a fence that was causing
problems in their neighborhood. As a non-profit organization
that does incredible work with homeless youth, the LAYN
relies on the
compassion of volunteers. [include photos] |
